Wonderfully made: from fighting your body to marveling at it

You don't tend well what you despise. You tend what fills you with awe.

Many of us were taught to live at war with our bodies: too slow, too heavy, too tired, never enough. We fight them, punish them, force them. But what if the starting point is wrong? Psalm 139 says: "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made." As a physician, I find that literally true every single day. And it changes everything.

(First: this is general metabolic-health education, not medical advice or treatment.)

What your body does while you're not looking

Think of the quiet miracles that happened today without a single command from you. A wound begins to close on its own. The muscle you stressed yesterday repairs itself and comes back a little stronger. While you slept, your body rebuilt itself and sorted your memories. And meal after meal, it holds your blood sugar within a narrow range, adjusting without your ever thinking about it. You designed none of it. It runs on your behalf, mostly unnoticed.

Awe changes the posture: from war to stewardship

Here's what matters: you attack what you despise, but you tend what you find precious. The war on the body — "punish it thinner" — is born of contempt, which is exactly why it collapses. Care that lasts is born of awe. When you see your body as a gift made with admirable precision, the whole relationship shifts: from punishment to stewardship. That is Amor Consciente — to steward, not to fight.

Awe is not passivity

Marveling doesn't mean "I do nothing, the body handles it." It means working with the design, not against it. Feed it real food. Give the muscle a reason to grow. Protect your sleep. Let it rest. You're not forcing a machine; you're cooperating with a living, intelligent system. Working with your biology, not against it, is also the heart of metabolic health.

A gift you didn't earn

And here faith enters. You don't care for your body to earn your worth, or God's love. You care for it because it is already a gift entrusted to you: "your body is a temple" (1 Cor 6:19–20). Gratitude, not guilt. Stewardship of a temple, not renovation of a ruin. When the "why" behind your habits is awe rather than shame, they finally become sustainable.

For today

  • Before you criticize your body, name one thing it did for you today: carried you up the stairs, healed something, held you up.
  • Trade one act of punishment for one act of care.
  • Let the reason behind your habits be wonder, not guilt.

You were made with astonishing care. Return the favor. That is Amor Consciente.

(General education, not medical advice. If you have diabetes or take medication that affects blood sugar, talk with your doctor before changing your diet or activity, and never start, stop, or change a medication without them.)
