Prevention is the treatment
The medicine of the future doesn't wait for disease — it anticipates it. Every health decision is a compounding investment across a lifetime.
Physician, author and speaker. This is the story behind the work.

A worldwide leader in metabolic health, longevity, and human optimization. Dr. Leonardo Vergara helps people around the world transform their metabolism and reclaim their energy — with science, not trends.
Dr. Leonardo Vergara returned to the roots of medicine: to heal the whole person, not manage symptoms. He treats the body with the rigor of science and the person with the presence of a healer —because you are not a problem to be managed, but a body, a soul and a spirit that can be made strong, whole and well.
He knows this battle firsthand. After facing —and reversing— his own obesity, inflammation, insulin resistance and fatty liver, he returned to first principles. As a physician he works from there —Zero Sugar, root-cause medicine— rebuilding metabolic health, longevity and energy from the foundation. As a coach, he turns that science into a daily practice: strength, real nutrition, rest and the discipline that makes a stronger life sustainable.
His story begins with immigrant sacrifice. Raised in a first-generation Ecuadorian-American family in Brooklyn and Queens —his mother a seamstress, his father in jewelry— he learned discipline, faith and work ethic early. He built a life across three worlds —science, business and medicine— earning an M.S., an M.B.A. and an M.D., and spending nearly two decades as a founder and CEO in the architectural-glass industry. Author of eight books, with new Spanish and English works in development, he now teaches Metabolic Leadership: you cannot fully lead your family, your company or your purpose while abandoning your own body. Health, he insists, is leadership.
And as a mentor, he walks with people toward the purpose and meaning that make health worth pursuing —the care of the soul and spirit— convinced that the body is a temple to be stewarded with gratitude. This is Amor Consciente: conscious love for the one body and the one life you were given. His mission is to carry that healing to every corner of the world.

I am Dr. Leonardo Vergara — an entrepreneur, physician, educator, and mentor — but before any title or achievement, I am the product of humble beginnings, sacrifice, faith, and perseverance.
My story began in Bushwick, Brooklyn, New York, on Bleecker Street. I attended P.S. 86 and grew up in a working-class neighborhood that taught me some of life's most important lessons long before I ever entered a university or a hospital.
I am the son of first-generation Ecuadorian parents who came to the United States in search of a better future. My mother worked as a seamstress; my father worked in the jewelry industry. They did not begin with wealth, influence, or connections. What they gave me was far more valuable: a strong work ethic, respect for others, faith in God, and the understanding that nothing meaningful in life is handed to you.
Growing up in Brooklyn — and later in Queens — I learned to adapt, to communicate with people from every background, and to keep moving forward even when the road was uncertain. Mine was not a life of privilege; it was shaped by modest circumstances, family sacrifice, cultural pride, and the determination to become more without forgetting where I came from. My Ecuadorian heritage remains an essential part of who I am: family, resilience, loyalty, humility, and the responsibility to honor the sacrifices of those who came before me.
Faith was also central to my early life. My Catholic upbringing — including my connection to St. Brigid's School and Church — established my spiritual foundation, and mentors like Father Muller in Brooklyn and Father Luis Guillermo in Georgia became important influences. Through every season — victories, failures, losses, and moments of uncertainty — my relationship with God has remained a source of direction, strength, and restoration.
Education became one of the paths through which I transformed my circumstances. Over the years I earned a bachelor's degree, a Master of Science, a Master of Business Administration, and a Doctor of Medicine. Each accomplishment was more than an academic title: it represented long nights, personal sacrifice, discipline, and the refusal to let my beginnings define the limits of my future.
My professional life has crossed several worlds: medicine, business, construction, leadership, and human transformation. As a founder and CEO, I built companies through years of hands-on experience, persistence, and calculated risk. I have known real success, and I have also endured downturns and seasons that forced me to rebuild. Those experiences taught me that true leadership is not demonstrated only when everything is going well: it is revealed when circumstances become difficult and a person chooses to rise again.
My own health transformation changed the direction of my life. After confronting obesity, metabolic dysfunction, fatty liver, and prediabetic markers, I took responsibility for my body and radically transformed my lifestyle. That journey was not merely about losing weight: it became a personal awakening and the foundation of my mission to teach metabolic health, personal responsibility, discipline, and leadership. Today I help others understand that health is not separate from leadership: the condition of the body influences the clarity of the mind, the strength of the spirit, the quality of our relationships, and our ability to fulfill our purpose. Through metabolic health, Zero Sugar living, First Principles Health™, and leadership mentoring, I help people reclaim control of their health and their lives.
I am also a father, husband, and family man. My children are among the greatest reasons behind everything I do. My family represents more than personal happiness: it represents legacy. I want my children to understand that their identity is not defined by hardship, failure, money, or public recognition, but by character, faith, courage, love, and what they contribute to the lives of others.
Despite my credentials, I still identify with the young boy from Brooklyn who watched his parents work and sacrifice to create an opportunity for their family. I have never forgotten the streets that shaped me, the people who believed in me, the mistakes that humbled me, or the difficult seasons that strengthened me. My life has not been a straight line: I have built, lost, learned, changed, and rebuilt. Every chapter has taught me that adversity is not the end of the story; it can become the training ground for a greater purpose.
I am not driven solely by money, recognition, or professional titles. I am driven by the desire to create a meaningful legacy: to help people become healthier, stronger, more disciplined, more conscious, and more connected to their God-given purpose. I am Brooklyn resilience, Ecuadorian heritage, American opportunity, medical knowledge, entrepreneurial experience, and spiritual faith, combined into one mission. I am Dr. Leonardo Vergara. I came from humble beginnings, but I was never created for a small purpose. My journey is evidence that where a person begins does not determine where they can go — and that with faith, discipline, education, responsibility, and perseverance, a person can transform not only their own life, but the lives of generations that follow.
